“Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever
commits sin is a slave of sin.’”
I think
this verse is here for all of us who have those days, those teeny moments where
we think it’s okay if we do this one thing…. But it’s really not. He says here,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave to sin.”
We are a slave to our flesh, to the sin that so easily entangles us. We’re
bound and captive by it, forced to do it’s will with a whip across our backs.
Even if
it’s something as small as judging someone in your mind, cursing under your
breath, etc. it’s still a sin, you’re still committing it, and you’re still a
slave to it! We can’t go on pretending that we can commit a sin and not be
slave to it.
God has
already given us the pardon, though. All we have to do is take it! Remember the
forgiveness of God, walk away, and turn from the ways you were released from.
It doesn’t mean you won’t screw up again, it simply means that we will sin
less, with the grace and direction of God.
Today I
will spend time praying to God that he will break the calluses I’ve grown
against small sins and he will show me the sins that are bigger than I make
them out to be.
