“’And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.’”
When I
hear the word truth I think of a lot of things; Of people back home who say that
truth is relative (which, by the way, is an oxymoron – because if that
statement is true, then that too is relative); Of a common question in people’s
minds – one that looks like a deep question outwardly but is easily answered.
Pilate asked it:
“Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘Are you a king then?’ Jesus
answered, ‘You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I have come into
the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the
truth hears my voice.’ Pilate said to Him, ‘What
is truth?’ And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and
said to them, ‘I find no fault in Him at all.’”-John 18:38 (NKJV emphasis
added)
The
answer is simple:
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the
life.’”-John 14:6a
Jesus
is the truth. We don’t have to look any farther than Jesus for it. Perhaps
Pilate found his answer as he walked away from Jesus, and turned to the crowd
and said he found no fault in him.
Perhaps
you’ve played the game “Two Truths and a Lie”. One person will state three
things about themselves and everyone else will try to determine which is the
lie of the three. It can be a hard game if you don’t know the person who is
talking about themselves very well, but if you know the person – it’s quite
easy to determine the lie from the other two.
This is
how we should be. If we want to know the truth – if we want to be set free – we
should know THE TRUTH. We should know Jesus over anything else.
We,
too, should easily determine the truth from the false; the lies of the devil
from the truth of Jesus. In order to do this, we need to know what sort of
things are in the truth. There are no gray areas with God.
Today I
will spend my On the Mount time focusing on the truth of God that there are no
gray areas (especially in the areas I’m struggling in), and that I believe that
what God is showing me is real.
