John 8:31

“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, ‘If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.’”
Sometimes I see things in the Bible that don’t make sense to me (it’s only natural, it’s the Word of the triune God that resides outside of time and space). Like this here. It’s telling me to abide in His word, while in other places it says to stand on His word, and that Jesus is the Word. How can all of these things exist simultaneously? Well, come on, man. It’s God – the three-in-one, Creator-Savior-Defender of the universe.
Again and again and again God blows my mind with his gigantic hugeness, yet his ability to pay attention to the smaller details of the creatures below. He both stretches out the Heavens, and fashions the innermost workings of a sparrow. He upholds the universe with the laws of gravity, thermodynamics, centrifugal force, and he carves out the fingerprints on each of our fingers. He contains the heat of the sun, pulls the tides of the oceans, and then in the same second, hears the prayer of the girl crying into her pillow.
This God – this infinite God – knows and hears me. Me. This huge God counts me worthy to listen to me; to hold me close to him; to forgive me when I screw up; to still give me things I desire when I don’t deserve anything.
To quote the lyrics to a song that really spoke to me on Saturday evening; “I know I’m weak, I know I’m unworthy to call upon your name. But because of your grace, because of your mercy – I stand here unashamed.”
Today, I will recall (and write down) the grace of God upon my life, and give him praise for his wonderful works; both big and small.
