Mark 8:38

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
This makes me think back to the verse a few lines above that reads: “Take up your cross and follow me.” Imagine you were walking down the street, sweating, grunting, and dragging a huge cross on his back. How could you hide something like that? Would you be ashamed of it? We’re told not to be. The Lord tells us not to be ashamed of him and his words in this generation. To scream them from the rooftops. The shame shouldn’t come from the things the Lord counts us worthy to bear. We should only be shamed if the Lord were to be ashamed of us by denying him.  The Lord wants us to follow him proudly, and to be filled with joy, and to tell others!
I will remember that the Lord wants me to have joy in following him, even if happiness is the farthest thing from my mind.
