This
verse immediately brought me back to James 3 about the “Un-Tamable Tongue”.
Verse 10 and 11 of James 3 say “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and
cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth
fresh water and bitter from the same opening?” These things are evidence of a
two-faced heart.
Now I’m
going to say that word that every girl (and most guys) cringe at for one reason
or another. Gossip. And there it goes. We’ve all fell victim to it, whether you
were the one talking about another person in a less-than flattering way, or you
were the one standing around the corner as you overheard someone’s painful
words. However, you can get as
passionate as you like about how bad gossip is, yet it’s so very easy to do,
and so very easy to not notice, and no one (I repeat – no one) has ever NOT
DONE IT.
This
verse here in I Corinthians is also coming back to the evidence of the Holy
Spirit in the believer’s life. The Holy Spirit will convict a person with a
loose tongue, and will be shown when you speak good things about other people
that build them up in love, whether they will hear about it or not.
This
week I will pray for the Holy Spirit to help me by convicting me when I think
negative things about other people, and I will do my own effort today in
complimenting and telling others of the good effects they have on me and my
life.
