“that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,”
So, seeing as this is Paul,
I need to go back a couple of verses and omit the descriptive parts of the
sentence so I can see a clearer picture of the point he’s making in this
particular area. This may look like a thought for thought translation – but
it’s how I’ll break it down easier in my head.
“Yet indeed I also count all
things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for
whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I
may gain Christ” – Philippians 3:8
So,
I count all things loss for the knowledge, and count them as rubbish – to get
Christ…
“and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness,
which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the
righteousness which is from God by faith;” – Philippians 3:9
And
to be found in him with righteousness by faith…
Now this verse: “that I may know
Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings,
being conformed to His death,” – Philippians 3:10
To
know him and the power he has, the things he suffered, and his death.
Okay,
so to wrap up… We count things as loss and rubbish to get Christ, be found in
Him in righteousness by faith, and to know Him and his power, sufferings, and
death.
Now,
counting things as loss may sound absolutely terrible, especially in the
moment, standing on the edge – wanting to jump… but when you put it like that –
you see the reasons why. When we do, we’re found in Him… counted righteous… and
allowed to know Him, His power, His sufferings, and His death.
The
biggest part that stands out to me is being allowed to KNOW HIM. This Creator
of the Universe, standing outside time, who can see the entirety of eternity
like a storyboard… gave us a way to know him. How crazy is that?!
Today,
I will spend time finding verses on the amazing power of God, and write them
down in my 2013 journal.
